Ski Lessons


Lessons are provided as either Group Instruction or booked on a Private Instruction basis. We teach our skiers in the following age groups:

  • Adult 16 years +
  • Junior 8-15 years
  • Tots 4-7 years

What will I learn?

 

Group lessons are structured on a skill level system, graded 1-7. You will receive a skill level card on your first lesson, which will be used to help monitor your progress.

The following guide explains each level and lesson content:


  • Level 1: introduction to skiing, equipment & basic skills needed

  •  

    • Ski and safety check
    • Walking and turning on the flat
    • Side stepping and turning on a slope
    • Straight running exercises
    • Introduction to stationary snowplough
    • Awareness of Ski Way Code

  • Level 2: Speed control

    • Snowplough glide
    • Snowplough brake
    • Straight run and snowplough stop


  • Level 3: Turning, improve speed control & direction

    • Snowplough turning exercise
    • Snowplough turn in and out of fall line


    For tots we have level 3a for those who can use a lift and level 3b for those who cant use the lifts.


   Level 4: Linking turns, preparing for recreational practice


  •    Linked snowplough turns
  •    Linked snowplough turns - varied radius

 

Once you have passed Level 4 you are ready to join your first open practice session and able to use both ski slopes unsupervised.

 

 



  • Level 5: Refine your technique

    • Plough swings
    • Basic swings

     

 

Group lessons are not available from Level 5 and up - Private lessons will be necessary. Alternatively, join our coffee mornings,technique training or Alpine Ski club.



  •  

  • Level 6: Fine tuning your skills & long radius parallels

    • Basic parallel turns
    • Parallel turns - long radius



  • Level 7: Rounding up your skills to become an advanced skier

    • Parallel turns - short radius
    • Short swings
    • Step turns

 


Long sleeves, long trousers, gloves and are required for this activity.
